Hannah Parker

Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development

Hello everyone! My name is Hannah Parker, and I am excited to be the 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent. As a Greensville County resident and Emporia native, I look forward to working with the community to provide valuable educational resources and programs for our youth.

I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2017 with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal and Poultry Sciences and Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. During my undergraduate career I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in Dinwiddie County’s Virginia Cooperative Extension internship, conduct undergraduate research, attend professional scientific meetings, deliver oral and poster presentations, serve as an undergraduate teaching assistant and participate in extracurricular leadership opportunities.

My passion for agriculture sparked during my childhood experiences in Greensville/Emporia 4-H and on my grandparents’ farm. Through the 4-H livestock show and day camps I learned many important life skills, as well as much about my interest in the sciences. While growing up on the farm, I learned the value of hard work and responsibility through my experiences raising animals, working in the fields, harvesting, and cleaning and packaging vegetable products to be sold to the local community. This passion was further inspired through my experiences in Sigma Alpha, a professional agricultural sorority, in which I was able to learn about various facets of agriculture by volunteering and having educational booths at the Blacksburg farmer’s market, school system, local pumpkin patch, Girl Scout meetings and much more.

Through my time as a Virginia Cooperative Extension Intern in Dinwiddie County I learned that I truly have a passion for educating others and working directly with members of the community through 4-H. By assisting the Dinwiddie 4-H Extension Agent in club activities, 4-H camp and hosting my own 4-H Cloverbud day camp, I have seen the importance of 4-H in proper youth development of good citizens and leaders. My desire is to utilize the knowledge gained through my various experiences to enhance the 4-H youth program in Greensville/Emporia by encouraging youth to become more involved with 4-H and their community. I truly want to inspire the youth of the Greensville/Emporia region to be involved, find their passions, explore the unknown and pursue their dreams.

I am honored and look forward to serving my hometown on the Virginia Cooperative Extension team as the VCE-Greensville/Emporia 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent!
